One of my favourite parts of this book was Valora trying to get to America and all of the ways that she managed to reach that goal or having someone agree to it. I thought it was really sweet how April wanted to help her at a time when not many others would do the same. I enjoyed the friendship between Valora and April. She became a sister and friend to so many people around her that I can imagine after she is gone how heartbroken they are. Something that stood out to me was how caring she was for everyone around her. I loved how smart she was and how she got herself out of situations by herself and played her strengths to her advantage. Our main character Valora had so much fire in her but had so much growth throughout the novel. I loved that there was a found family trope in this book and Valora’s friends became like family to her. I didn’t mind that the crash didn’t happen until much later in the novel as I was very invested in the characters themselves. The balance between the plot,character development and Val’s head was paced really well. I really could feel the characters’ emotions when it was written like the story really drew me in. It was so well written, sometimes I felt like I was on the boat myself. The writing and how the author wrote the atmosphere was insane. “The sooner you let people be who they want to be, the better for all.” It isn’t until one night when the boat hits the iceberg and all of them have to fight to live. There is also the aspect of whether or not Jamie even wants to leave off with Val. Val ends up having to pretend that she belongs in first class by pretending to be a boy which only can last for so long until someone figures her out. Find her twin brother and somehow try and convice a part-time owner to take two twins as acrobats. The young woman has two things that she wants to do. Valora ends up quitting her job and sneaking onto the Titanic. This novel is set in a historical fiction setting and we follow six characters who go on the Titanic. And in those moments of rest, we find strength anew and challenge ourselves to grow bigger than we ever thought possible.” “There are moments to be strong, but there are also moments to be weak.
